Sterling Joe Doss Visitation for Sterling Doss will be held Sunday, January 6, 2018 at the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2018 at the Skiatook Free Will Baptist Church with Spencer Ray, Larry Stephenson and Mitch Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in the Vernon cemetery in Coweta under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home. Sterling Doss, age 80, of Skiatook, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2018 in Tulsa.

Sterling was born May 5, 1938 in Santa Rosa, Texas to Sterling Eli and Vera Mae (Fair) Doss. Sterling grew up and received his education in Santa Rosa, Texas and Gentry, Arkansas. Sterling also attended North Eastern State and Wichita State University where he completed his Masters in Music Education Degree.

Sterling entered into the United States Army in 1956 and received his honorable discharge in 1966 after serving in active duty and reserves. Sterling married Betty Louise Clemons on December 24, 1967 in Tulsa where they made their home until moving to El Dorado, Kansas until 1971 when they moved to Skiatook. Sterling was employed with Skiatook Public Schools where he was a Vocal Music Teacher.

Sterling loved fishing every chance that he could go, he built a 2350 square foot rock home, built a four car garage twice because one had burned down and built a deck boat (The BMW Of Bow Fishing Boat). Sterling was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother and by one grandson. Sterling is survived by his wife Betty of 51 years, four children: Kim Reynolds, Russell Moulton, Lou Ann Harms and Trae (TJ) Doss, one brother: Dwight Doss, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Music for the services will be: “How Great Thou Art”, “I Will tell The World I Am A Christian” and Congregational Hymns. Pallbearers for the service will be: Bob Cranford, Bob Ridenour, Blake Hanna, Cecil Hester, Jack Newcomb and Steve Mixon. Honorary pallbearers are Milton McCrary, Joe Holmes and Roy Holmes.

The family of Sterling Doss entrusted his care and services to the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
