Obituary for Steven J Nienstedt Steven J. Nienstedt, 65, of Rutherford passed away, Tuesday April 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 27, 1952 to Edward and Anne in Brooklyn, NY. Steven married the love of his life, Lorraine (nee Roth), nearly 42 years ago.

Together they raised five beautiful children. Steven was a member of the Rutherford Police Department for 34 years and retired in 2007 as Chief of Police. He was a member of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association.

He earned his Master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Steven will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Lorraine, and their adoring children, Carrie Shafer and her husband Robert, Steven, Jr. and his wife Melissa, Bridget Cronin and her husband Michael, Thomas and his wife Anna, and Katelyn Brady and her husband Christopher. He was a wonderful, fun-loving Pop to Steven III, Emily, Wesley, Kayla, Brenna, Wyatt, Meghan, Norah, and Abigail.

He is pre-deceased by his father, Edward and is survived by his mother Anne (nee Mackin), age 98, and his siblings Carol Stafford, Edward, and Bruce. Steve will also be greatly missed by many dear friends, nieces, nephews & cousins Family will receive friends Thursday 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford. Funeral Friday 10 am from Funeral Home for 11 am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
