Susan Ward Ashby of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw at the age of 73. She was one of two daughters born to Mary (Wall) and LeRoy Ward in Huntington, Indiana. Susan celebrated her birthday on October 16, 1945.

One day she met her future husband and was married on September 30, 1995 to Glen Ashby, who survives. Susan was a 1964 graduate of Manchester High School after which she pursued various passions. For almost 20 years she worked as a tour guide sharing her knowledge in Arizona, California, Nevada and Mexico.

She was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 28 years where she was the type of person who was never afraid to try new things. Susan worked as a truck driver, at the Rent-a-Center in Warsaw and in the Walmart Eye Center. She was also a familiar face at the Kosciusko County Historical Society working in the Jail Museum where she was able to indulge her love of genealogy.

She was also very involved with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters locally, as well as she enjoyed sharing her time with the Boys and Girls Club here in Warsaw. She will be dearly missed by her family and countless friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 23 years, Glen Ashby (Warsaw, Indiana); step-son: Glen (Michelle) Ashby, Jr. (Dunnellon, Florida); three step-daughters: Sherry (William) Hardesty (New Paris, Indiana); Jennifer (Chad) Hull (Churubusco, Indiana); and Sunshine Kyler (Peru, Indiana).

She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her niece: Amber Gelbaugh (Winona Lake, Indiana). She was preceded in death by her parents, step-daughter, Glenna Waldenville, sister, Mary L. Thomas who passed away on May 10, 2019 and her nephew, Mitch Titus who passed on May 5, 2019. Susan’s life will be celebrated with a private memorial service at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Jamy Gregory.

Burial will take place at a later date. Memorial donations in Susan’s memory can be made to honor the lives of her mother and sister to go towards the K-21 Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1810, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1810…please note on memo line of the check that donations are designated to – Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund, and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
