Susan M. Balch, of Saratoga Springs peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Gateway House of Peace. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on November 21, 1945, the daughter of Martha Warshona Schwartz and the late Elmer Schwartz. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, SUNY at Fredonia and Elmira College.

She started her state career in the New York State Department of Civil Service in 1970 and retired in 2000. After retiring she traveled to Europe to revisit some of the cities and sites that she saw while residing with a family in Antwerp Belgium as part of a college living abroad program. Susan is survived by her mother, Martha Schwartz of Saratoga Springs, NY; son, Adrian M. Balch and his wife Melissa L. (Peters) Balch; and loving grandchildren Olivia S. Balch and Nathan M. Balch of Fredonia, NY; daughter, Emily M. Balch of Rochester, NY and several cousins.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Elmer J. Schwartz and her sister Patricia A. Schwartz. To honor Susan’s request there will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave.

(Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave. ), Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Interment in honor of Susan will be held at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY following the service.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Susan’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
