Theresa’s Obituary Theresa JoAnn Luebcke was born March 13, 1935 in Marysville, KS to Ferdinand J. “Pete” Luebcke and Belva L. Blocker Luebcke. She was baptized at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Marysville. At an early age the family moved to Jansen, Nebraska.

JoAnn contracted polio as a child. After a long, determined struggle, she regained her ability to walk. She attended grade school in Jansen and high school in Endicott, NE.

She enlisted in the U.S. Navy but was unable to continue due to medical reasons related to polio. JoAnn worked for a number of years at the Pepsi Cola bottling plant in Marysville. Later, she painted with her father, Pete, and her friend, Etta Herfel.

She worked at Plymouth Manufacturing before retirement. JoAnn was a people person. She was also the first to help everyone in need even though she had very little herself.

She worked hard and was always content with her life. She was also an animal lover, especially of horses and dogs. She rode her horse, Shareek, in local parades.

She also raised sheep, goats and chickens. Although it was difficult for Joann to get around in later years and she was unable to attend church, her Catholic faith was very important to her. If you ever told her someone was sick or had problems she would always say “I’ll pray for them” and she meant it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Belva. She is survived by her only sister, Marlene, and husband Dick Varilek; two nieces, Terri Pereira and husband, Candido; and Sherri Varilek and Nate Smith; two great nieces, Laurel Pereira and Amanda Pereira, and great nephew, Hunter Smith and special family friend, Nancy Bettin. Funeral Services will be Thursday May 16 at 2 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home.

Burial at the Fairbury Cemetery.
