Bopely Sunday September 16, 2018, Zanesville Ohio. Thomas Bopeley was born in London Ohio on July 20, 1933 to Joseph and Vivian (Conner) Bopeley. He was pre-deceased by his wife, June, and by his sister, Vivian McKee.
Tom graduated from London High School where he was president of his senior class and earned eleven varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He received a football scholarship at Colgate University and after graduating in 1955 he attended and graduated from Ohio State University College of Law. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1958.
He was employed by the U.S. Government for two years and then began his legal career in Columbus Ohio in 1960. In 1966 he became associated with the Graham and Graham Law Office in Zanesville Ohio. He later joined the law office of Micheli and Baldwin where he retired in 2005.
Tom specialized as a trial lawyer representing both plaintiffs and defendants with dedication, zeal, and skill. In 1985 he was selected on of the best trial lawyers in America by Town and Country magazine. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers from 1980-1986 and served as Law Director of the City of Zanesville from 1994-2000.
He was an Acting Judge of Zanesville Municipal Court from 2000-2015. ‘Bope’ loved the game of golf and the people with whom he played the game. He was a member of the Zanesville Country Club for more than 50 years and served as it’s president in 1983.
He was a member of the board of Governors of the Ohio Golf association from 1981-1983. Mr Bopeley was a board member of Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and was president of the board from 1983-1992. He was both a volunteer and board member at Christs Table and was its president in 2002 and 2003.
He was a member of the board of the Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority and the Zanesville Community Improvement Board. Tom’s proudest accomplishment was his family. He was married June for 58 years until her death in September, 2016.
He is survived by his daughter Lynn and her two girls, Lucy and Mariemma, and his son Dan, his wife Amy and their daughter Olivia and son Branson. A funeral mass at St. Patrick Church, 61 S. Union St., in London Ohio, officiated by Father Michael J. Hinterschied will take place on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ’s table are requested.
