Thomas’ Obituary SANGLIER, Thomas Charles – Of Flint, age 87, died Friday, May 3, 2019 at Hyde Park Assisted Living. A memorial service will be held at Roxborough State Park, Colorado at a later date. To honor Tom’s memory, the family encourages his friends and family to purchase any state park pass and to spend some time enjoying nature.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Tom was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 24, 1931, the son of Louis and Myrtle (Wehner) Sanglier. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in education from Olivet College and a Master’s Degree in education from Michigan State University.

He shared 40 years of marriage with his loving wife Diane (Berryman). He leaves his wife Diane, four children and two step-children; Thomas (Ai-Yun) Sanglier II of Clinton, MA, Cherie (Scott) Johnson of Roscommon, MI, Laurie (David) Shourd of Bremerton, WA, Peter Sanglier of Burbank, CA, Mark Berryman of Flint, and Matthew (Kathryn) Berryman of San Antonio, TX. He also leaves to cherish his memory 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Louis Sanglier, Francis (Bud) Sanglier, Kenneth Sanglier, and Margaret DiSabatino. Tom was a teacher, coach, community school director, and assistant principal before retiring as the principal at Cody Elementary School in Flint in 1986. After retirement, he owned and operated several businesses at Windmill Place in Flint and Trapper’s Alley in Detroit’s Greektown.

After moving to Colorado in 1992, Tom began working and volunteering as a naturalist at Roxborough State Park in Littleton, Colorado, sharing his love of nature with school children and other community groups. Tom was an adventurer. He rafted the Grand Canyon three times, kayaked with whales, bungee jumped, traveled the country and the world, and even ran a 5K at the age of 80.

He also volunteered his time at The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
