Thomas Davis Cann passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Plymouth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Plymouth, MA, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. The son of John (Jack) and Verna Cann of Plymouth (formally of Norwell), he was surrounded by his loving family and many of his very faithful friends from the Norwell High School Class of 1973.
Tom loved playing cards, especially cribbage, and was a talented photographer who took beautifully composed pictures of the family’s Maine cottages, landscapes, boats, and of family members. He would also frame many of them as gifts. He also loved music, particularly classic rock, the Beatles, Chicago, Jethro Tull, Dave Mason, and Heart, and was an aficionado of such topics as the life of President Kennedy and the theories and circumstances surrounding his assassination, as well as the U.S. space program.
Tom also was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots, as well as many stand-up comedians, particularly Jerry Seinfeld, and had a wry sense of humor. Tom was a savvy computer user and would help people at the Rehabilitation Center if they had problems with their laptops, tablets or smartphones. Tom graduated from Norwell High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University, and received an accounting certificate from Bentley University.
He worked as an office manager and bookkeeper at Solutek Corp. in Boston for seven years, and in contract management for IBM for 18 years. He retired because of his illness in 2002.
He leaves his three sisters Debra (Cann) Cumming, and her husband, Steven Cumming; Brenda (Cann) Hosford and her husband, Stephen Hosford; and Linda (Cann) Wiggin. He also leaves many nieces and nephews: Emily (Cumming) Ullmann and her husband, Klaus; Andrew Cumming, Erica Hosford, Zachary Hosford, and his wife, Mackenzie; Samuel Hosford, Gregory Wiggin, and J.D. Wiggin; and two grandnephews, Colby and Bradley Ullmann. He also leaves his great-aunt Judy (Cann) Mastro, and her husband, Bob Mastro; his cousins, Shari (Mastro) Turner, and her husband, Stephen; Laurie (Mastro) McDermott, and her husband, Paul McDermott; and Bob Brown and his wife, Sandy.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life during visiting hours on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 at 11 am in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 17 Church St., Hanover, MA. 02339.
