THOMAS LEROY HARP, 82 of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:47 AM at his home. He was born on October 14, 1935 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Henry and Rowena (Taflinger) Harp. On April 13, 1957 Tom married Jean Rae Umstead who survives along with four children, Teresa (Jeff) Blair of Knoxville, TN, Leanna (Dave) Brulport of Sidney, Vicki Harp and fiancé’ Tim Hebb of Troy, and William (Lisa) Harp of Sidney, nine grandchildren, Anthony (Victoria) Harp, James Blair, Bryan Brulport, Dan Brulport, Bethany Harp, Kyla Stratton, Jordi Harp and fiancé’ Kyle Dembski, Maddie Harp, and Shaun (Sharon) Brulport, and three great-grandchildren, Freyja and Isla Harp, and Dean Brulport.

He was preceded in death by brother, William Harp, grandson, Thomas Stratton, and in-laws, Robert and Helen Umstead. Mr. Harp proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1959. He worked as a foreman for Monarch Machine in Sidney, was co-founder of Sidney Design Service, and later retired from Crown Equipment as a project engineer.

He was a member of Sidney American Legion Post 217 and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Tom loved genealogy, and spent many years traveling with Jean, looking for ancestors. He wrote numerous books on his family and other families.

He was very artistic. He enjoyed traveling, camping, playing pool, photography, computers and music. He also organized Marine Corp reunions for his boot camp including his D.I. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating. American Legion Post 217 will conduct Military Honors following the service.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilson Home Health & Hospice, and Sidney American Legion Post 217.
