Obituary for Mr. Thomas Slawson Sr. Thomas Slawson, Sr. was born and raised in Charleston, SC on August 16, 1935. He was the eldest son of Freddy and Wilhelmina Miller. He attended Charleston County Public Schools.

And in1951, he enlisted in the United Stated Armed Service. While stationed at Fort Benning, GA, he met and married Bernice Brooks. Together they had seven children.

Also during this time, he enrolled in college with the University of Maryland, University College. After honorably serving his country in the United States and overseas for more than 23 years, he retired from active duty in 1974 at Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston, SC. His influence on the youth was not limited to his children and students. For many years, he coached little league football, basketball, and baseball. Upon numerous years of public service, his transfer to a second retirement enabled him to help raise his grandchildren, spend more time with family and friends, and travel.

Although he gave his life to Christ at an early age, upon relocating to Charleston, SC, he joined Eastside Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully serviced on the Youth Committee and in the Senior and Male Choirs. He was preceded in death by his parents (Freddy and Wilhelmina Miller), two sisters (Jennie Poinsett and Naomi Washington), and two brothers (Leon and Earl Miller). He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Bernice (Bunny), four sons: (Thomas Slawson, Jr. (Karen), Summerville, SC; Mark A. Slawson, Hackensack, NJ; Michael E.
