Troy “T-Roy” Cale Cates, 48 of Hanson, KY passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville. He was born November 4, 1970 in Madisonville to Brenda Whitehouse Cates and the late Roy T. Cates. He was a member of Pritchetts Chapel.

He was a coal miner and very active in the cancer community. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jessica Davis Cates; one daughter, Alexis (Cody) Mayberry of Madisonville; one son, Justin Cates of Hanson; one sister, Farrah Cates (Wes) Thornton of Lexington, KY; two brothers, Jason (Kelley) Cates of Hanson and Rick (Paula) Cates of Lanesville, IN; and one grandchild, Adalena “Angel Bear” Mayberry. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro.

Steve Terry officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Austin, Michael Suttle, Gene Rickard, Scott Rager, Freddy Martin, Jason Cates, Tony Forker, and Wes Thornton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mahr Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
