Trudy M. (Freidhoff) Swartz, 70, Elton, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2019 at West Penn Hospital, after a 22 year courageous battle with cancer. Born June 13, 1948, in Summerhill, daughter of Francis and Mary Rita (Beyer) Freidhoff. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Judith; and brothers, Edward, Richard, and Robert.

Survived by her husband of 40 years, Tom; and their son, Mark (Jennifer Thomas), Pittsburgh; and grandchildren, Daniel and James Kochupura, and Sophia Swartz. Also survived by sisters, Patricia (John) Williams, Pittsburgh; Carol (Charles) Konchan, Johnstown; Sally Reardon, Clayton, NC; Mary (Daniel) Partsch, Salix; and Christine (Samuel) Mash, Scottsboro, AL; and former sisters-in-law, Roberta (Casteel) Freidhoff, Alliance, OH; and Sherry (Miller) Freidhoff, Windber; and numerous nieces and nephews. Trudy received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She was employed as a reading specialist for 37 years by the Richland School District. She was a longtime member of Belmont United Methodist Church. Trudy, Tom, and Mark traveled to all of the 50 states.

After retirement, she and Tom continued to travel throughout the country, as well as to Europe, Central America, and Canada, and they enjoyed cruises to Alaska and the Carribean. Trudy enjoyed decorating the home for all of the various holidays, especially Christmas. She would start before Thanksgiving to complete the decorating in time for Christmas.

She and Tom decorated as many as 15 trees, each with a different theme. She was also an avid collector of Nativity sets, acquiring many unique, one of a kind sets during her travels. Without a doubt, Trudy was delighted when she was blessed with a granddaughter, and spent as much time as she could with the apple of her eye, Sophie.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. , where funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday, with Pastor Jean Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Belmont United Methodist Church.
