Obituary for Twila R. Guebert Twila R. Guebert, 86, died Sunday, April 22, at St. Louis University Hospital after sustaining a fall earlier that day at Garden Place, 351 Lockwood, Red Bud, where she had resided the previous three years. Twila Ruth Hanebutt was born April 12, 1932, to Harry E. and Lottie Stellhorn Hanebutt on a tenant farm near Rising City, NE. Her family returned to their native Illinois in 1937.

She graduated from Red Bud Community High School in May 1950 and married Richard L. Guebert of Red Bud on Sept. 2, 1950. They operated a large dairy farm near Modoc known as Indian Farm and Twila served as the farm’s chief bookkeeper for more than 30 years.

Upon retirement, Rich and Twila moved to Red Bud. Rich preceded her in death on July 9, 2016. Richard and Twila were married more than 65 years and had six children; all survive and include: Richard L. (Nancy) of Ellis Grove, IL; Peggy (Milton) Simunich of Lebanon, IL; David (Teri) of St. Louis; Alan (Catherine) of Delavan, IL; Perry (Judy) of Cape Girardeau, MO; and Christian (Kathy) of Imperial, MO.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two brothers, Rev. Robert L. of Cameron Park, CA, and Donald D. of Dupo, IL preceded her in death.

Their widows, Eileen in California and Karen in New Athens, IL survive. A sister, Nina M. Guebert, also survives and resides in the Skilled Nursing Care Facility, Red Bud. Twila was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a former member of its Evening Guild, and a long-time member of Randolph County Farm Bureau where she once served as president of its Women’s Committee.

She was a talented seamstress whose craftsmanship was a hallmark of the many dresses, shirts, and sport coats she made for her family and others. She also handmade several of her pastor-brother’s albs and stoles. Twila was an avid reader; enjoyed fishing, cooking, and competitive games of euchre and pinochle; and was a welcoming, fun “Mamo” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m, Friday, April 27, at St. John’s Lutheran, Red Bud, the church where she was both confirmed and married. Visitation will begin two hours prior, at 9 a.m., at the church. Internment will follow immediately at the church cemetery.

Rev. Mark Nebel and Rev. Jeremy Schultz will officiate.
