Heaven received another angel on January 5, 2019. Tyyne slipped peacefully, with her family at her side, on the morning of her 67th wedding anniversary, just 11 days short of her 99 birthday. She was born on January 16, 1920 in Two Harbors to Kalle and Amalia (Oksanen) Moisio, who owned a boarding home on First Avenue, which is now Barross House.

After graduating from high school in 1938, Tyyne followed the love of her life, John Minahan to California during WWII. When he shipped overseas, she came back to live with her parents, soon finding out he had been killed in the war. Daughter, Jacqueline, was born 3 months after his death.

Tyyne remarried in 1952 to Harold Ahola and they had 3 children; Steve, Barb, and Bill. They continued to run the boarding home until it was sold in 1983. For many years Tyyne worked for Lake County Planning and Zoning office in the court house.

Once she and Harold retired, they were “snow birds” for many, many years; mostly spending the winter months in Las Vegas and enjoying the warmth and casinos. Most recently, Tyyne lived at Ecumen Scenic Shores Assisted Living until changes in her health required a move over to the Care Center side. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Minahan PFC and Harold Ahola; her parents; and sons, Steve and Bill Ahola.

Tyyne is survived by her daughters, Jackie Carlson and Barb (Jon) Glass; grandchildren, Angie (Brian) McLain, Jeanne DePotter (Keith Morin), Bob (Jess) Carlson, Jim (Jennifer) Hungerford, Gus (Becky) Carlson, Erin Carlson, and Dan (Gloria) Carlson; 15 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Pat Russes (wife of son, Steve). Tyyne was very proud of her Finnish heritage and was still in touch with many relatives over in Finland. She was also an excellent seamstress, knitter, crocheter, having made many garments for all her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Tynne was also addicted to jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. The family would like to thank Ecumen Scenic Shores Assisted Living and Care Center as well as St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful, loving care given to Tyyne in her declining years. Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.

After Mass, please join the family for lunch at Ecumen Scenic Shores Care Center. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
