V. Lucille Davenport, 96, of Caldwell, died on Monday, April 23, 2018 of natural causes. Lucille was born on August 13, 1921 in Miles City, Montana to Grayson & Belle (Brown) Mills. She was brought home in a buckboard to a rural ranch house made of sod.

She graduated from Custer County High School in Miles City. She went to Miles City Jr. College and was a secretary at the high school and at a local law office. Lucille married Melvin Davenport on Nov 30, 1941 and they were blessed with 4 children: Linda, Dave, Martha and Dan.

After Melvin’s service in WWII, they moved to Caldwell in 1946, where they raised their family. She was the office manager and bookkeeper for their engineering and surveying business. They joined the Caldwell Friends Church in 1957 and Lucille taught young children’s Sunday school for 45 years.

She was affectionately known as the “Bubble Gum Lady”. She will be remembered as a woman who lived her faith: loving, praying, and caring for her family every day. Her kindness, generosity acceptance, and love were felt by all who knew her.

Lucille was an avid reader and was never far from a public library. She supported education and served on the Greenleaf Friends Academy school board for many years. She enjoyed quilting, and was a crusading recycler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin (1990), daughter, Linda Swenwold (2012), brother, Randall Mills (1963) and sister, Billie South (2003). Lucille is survived by a sister, Theo Norgaard, 3 children: Dave (Bev) Davenport, Martha (John) Beck, Dan (Lucy) Davenport, grandchildren: Steven Swenwold, Jenny Enriquez, Wendy Davenport, Sheri Davenport, Randy Davenport, Melissa Miller, Mark Davenport, and 6 great-grandchildren with 1 great-great grandson on the way. Lucille’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Caldwell Friends Church, 1814 Howard Ave, Caldwell, ID.

Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A private family burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be given at www.
