VALARA’s Obituary Valara Ruth Royster Heierman, 92, of Cairo, Kentucky, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Redbanks Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree, Kentucky. She was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church. Valara also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a Kentucky Colonel.

A graduate of Lockyear Business College, she worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation at Central High School as a librarian and bookstore manager. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Valara volunteered at the Henderson Christian Community Outreach and several other organizations and was active in the Henderson Business Professional Women’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 ½ years, William B. “Bill” Heierman, who died October 31, 2010; her parents, Fred and Ruth Royster; and two brothers, Ferd Royster and Dr. Wimberly Royster. Survivors include two sons, William A. “Bill” Heierman and his wife, Vickie, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Daniel “Dan” Heierman and his wife, Jana, of Cairo, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Scott Heierman, Jill Heierman, Katie Heierman Minnis and her husband, Quint, and Jodie Heierman; nieces and nephews, including Nan Koehnen and her husband, Randy, David Royster and his wife, Norma, Paul Royster and his wife, Jane, Charles William Royster, Jean Ellen Swearingen, Reece Newman, and Donna Morgan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cairo United Methodist Church.

The Reverend Dan Lovell will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, contributions may be made to Cairo United Methodist Church, Henderson Christian Community Outreach, or Go International. Pallbearers will be Randy Koehnen, Jarrod McGraw, Del Brock, Donnie Braden, Ronnie Eblen, and John Eblen. Valara’s family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Redbanks Colonial Terrace Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.
