Velma Jo Lance Stancill, 85, of Resaca died on Sunday, January 13, 2019, following several years of declining health. Velma Jo was born in Calhoun on October 14, 1933; she was the daughter of the late Fayte and Rosa Lance. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ford Stancill; her sister, Gladys Lance; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Madeline Lance, Mac and Ruby Jo Lance, and Albert Lance; her step grandson, David Castelo; her nephew, Gary Lance.

Velma Jo was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Survivors include her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Annette and Cornelio Castelo; her brother and sisters-in-law, Franklin and Faye Lance, and Bonnie Lance; her step grandson, Danny Castelo; her step great-grandson, Thomas Castelo; her step great-granddaughter, Katte Castelo; nieces and nephews, Grady Lance, Melba Sisson, Gail Stokes, Janet Abernathy, Linda Oxford, Teresa Lake, Karen Bartenfield, Letitia Sosebee, and Cristy Ponder; other great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives. The Stancill family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery. Rev.

Harold Blackstock will officiate. Pallbearers are Alan Sosebee, Jason Ponder, Melvin Lake, John Oxford, Kenneth Sisson, and Byron Abernathy. Honorary pallbearers are Grady Lance, Chris Serritt, Taylor Jordon, Adam Diskey, Nick Robison, and Houston Ponder.
