OBITUARY Velma Ruth Light October 3, 1931 – January 11, 2019 Velma Ruth Light, 87, entered into the loving arms of Jesus during the early morning hours of Friday (January 11, 2019) at her home surrounded by her loving family. Velma was born on October 3, 1931 in Fall Branch, TN to the late Leo & Mary (Shelton) Baines. Velma retired from Sullivan County School System as a dedicated bus driver after 25 years of service.

Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend; she will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents Velma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Everett Elbert Light; daughter, Shirley Cross; four brothers, Everett Shelton, Jack Baines, Leland Baines, and Carl Light; sister, Margaret Ramey; grandson, Robbie Light; granddaughter, Rebecca Blevins; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Chambers. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Gene Light & wife Jenny, Mike Light & wife Kay, and Bobby Light & wife Beverly; daughter, Janet Blevins & husband Tom; brother, M.H. Baines; sister, Betty Jo Melear; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday (January 14, 2019) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Persinger officiating.

Velma will be laid to rest beside of her beloved husband on Tuesday (January 15, 2019) at 1 p.m. in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at East Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; www. stjude.org; 800-873-6983).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Velma’s caregivers as well as Smoky Mountain Hospice especially Susie and Carrie for all the kind and compassionate care that was given and shown to Velma during her time of need.
