Velva Leora Jones, 82, was escorted from this life to her Heavenly reward, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Velva was born February 21, 1937, in Blackwater, VA, to Lewis Miles Delph and Bessie Mae Johnson Delph. In 1946, at the age of 9, Velva accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour.
Her greatest wish for family and friends is that they be saved and meet her in Heaven one day. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile, her kind words, and her love for others. As Proverbs 31:28 states; Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many children looked to her as a mother and many would call her blessed. On November 29, 1955, Velva married the love of her life, her soulmate for 63 precious years, Ralph Jones. Velva is survived by her husband and their five children: Bobby (Hess) Jones, Debby (Marvin) Tapp, Burl (Pam) Jones, Gerald (Denise) Jones, and Mike (Cindy) Jones; thirteen grandchildren, Bobby Jones II, Monica Mullins, Clint Jones, Jeremy Jones, Derrick Lee, Candy Jones, Kayla Bowlin, Jacob Jones, Isaac Jones, Callie Jones, Summer Jones, Kim Coffman, and Vickie Coffman; fifteen great grandchildren, Kiley, Levi, Madison, Mason, Layne, Evy, Kayda, Jesse, Kayson, Kayne, Riddick, Iris, Natasha, Bradley, and Macey; one sister, Cleo Bean; two brothers, L.D. (Rose) Delph and Foy (Shirley) Delph; one sister-in-law, Dolly (David) Greer; special nieces, Juanita Greene, Regina Jones, Jennifer Lane; special nephew, Guy Short Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Velva was preceded in death by three brothers, Bascom Delph, Lloyd Delph, and Harvey Delph; eight sisters, Virgie Johnson, Kathleen Donels, Lillie Bell Bean, Ettie Delph, Bertha Delph, Juna Delph, Lorene Crittenden, and Erma Webb; mother and father-in-law, Ray Jones and Parolee Lawson Jones; sisters-in-law, Virginia Jones and Laura Bruner. Donations may be made in her memory to OOA Senior Meal Program, PO Box 207, Rogersville, TN 37857, in honor of the meals served to Velva and Ralph in her final days. The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice Care for the loving care provided by them during this difficult time.
