Obituary for Verna Coleman Verna Coleman, Age 87 of Madison Heights, Michigan passed away peacefully on June 13, 2018 at William Beaumont Hospital, Troy Michigan. Verna was born on August 5, 1930 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Anthony and Mary Filice, the youngest of five children. She was married to the late Paul R. Coleman in 1948 until his death in 1976.

Verna was the dear Mother of seven children, Paul L. (Rita) Coleman, Patrick R. (Diane) Coleman, Timothy J. (Fleta) Coleman, Lorna M (Gary) Morton, Phillip A. Coleman, Benita I Taylor, and Hal R. (Suzette) Coleman, and the loving and proud grandmother of 20, and great grandmother of 19. Verna is predeceased by her siblings Victor Filice, John Filice, Elizabeth (Karl) Broz and Sam Filice. Verna was a devoted wife to her husband Paul until he passed away at age 48.

She then raised 7 children by herself, working nights at Detroit Coil in order to support her children and be home with them as much as possible. She worked for 38 years before retiring. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, often babysitting or watching the family pets.

Verna never missed attending all the family events and loved celebrations involving her children and extended family. She was always cooking meals for her family and friends to enjoy and was famous for her potato salad. Verna was a strong and faithful woman, who never complained, even in difficult times.

As a quiet and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Visitations will be held on Friday, June 15th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 Pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road,(1block North of 13 Mile Road, West side of John R. Road) Madison Heights, Michigan. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, MIchigan Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
