Vernal Willard Jorgensen March 27, 1926 – December 26, 2018 Vernal Willard Jorgensen, 92, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Monday, December 31, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Home with family present.

Vernal Willard Jorgensen, son of Andrew and Helga (Bakke) Jorgensen, was born March 27th 1926 at Vienna, South Dakota. He received his education at Vienna. During W.W. II he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gleaves (DD-423) in the Pacific Theater.

On September 18, 1948 he married Dona Marie Thompson, the mother of their four daughters. Born: March 27, 1926 Death: December 26, 2018 In the early 60’s they moved to Sioux Falls where he was employed by American Freight as a city delivery driver until he retired. He then embarked on his 2nd career; working an additional 25 years and retiring at the age of 90 from Woodlawn Cemetery.

Vernal is survived by his daughters: JoLane (Art) Schaefer of Monroe, SD; Jacquie (Bob) Pietrs of Madison, AL; Julie Block of Englewood, CO; two grandchildren: Clayton (Christine), Tia (Derek): three great-grandchildren: Brendan, Cale and Lindsey: several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, two brothers, and three sisters. He reaffirmed his faith April 1, 1965 when he joined “AA” and sponsoring many in the following years.

Vernal enjoyed playing cards, gardening, helping others and spending time with friends and family. His sharp mind and quick wit endeared him to all. His Woodlawn family held a special place in his life.

A special thanks to those who took the time and effort to visit, play Bingo, or just call him these past few months. It made a difficult situation much better for him. www.
