Vernon Cecil Rhynes, of Paragould, departed this life on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 12:45 p.m. at the age of 88 years and 11 months. He was born December 2, 1929, near Greenway, AR. He was the 12th of 13 children born to Oscar and Carrie Rhynes.

As a member of Center Hill Church of Christ, he served as a deacon and coordinator of the food and benevolence program several years. After moving back home from St. Louis, MO, he started working at L.A. Darling Store Fixtures in 1969 and retired in 1994. Vernon was a Korean War veteran, Staff Sgt.

(T) Combat Engineers of Company C 73rd, and Combat Engineer Demolition Specialist. An honor he was very proud of was being selected to the Greene County Tech Veterans Hall of Fame in 2011. He loved to spend time with family and his greatest joy was his 3 great-grandbabies.

Vernon loved bowling, hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Carrie (Downing) Rhynes; six sisters, Eletta Simpson, Dovie Brewer, Alene Mills, Velma Purdom, Orpha Brewer, Nellie Good; five brothers, Arthur, Everett, Marvin, Roy, and Lional Rhynes. His survivors include his loving wife of 66 ½ years, Louise (James) Rhynes; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Wayne Foshee; 2 grandsons, Christopher (Randall) Foshee, and Andrew Foshee; 1 granddaughter, Carissa (Foshee) Winn (Jonathan); 2 great-grandsons, Owen Foshee and Carter Foshee; 1 great granddaughter, Eve Foshee; 1 sister, Eva Ricker of Boulder, MT as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time, Sunday, November 18, at Phillips Funeral Home. Services will begin at 2 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Michael Meredith officiating. Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, AR, with military honors.

Pallbearers: grandsons, Chris and Andrew Foshee and Jonathan Winn; nephews, Larry Rhynes and Jeremy Peeler; son-in-law, Wayne Foshee. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to the Center Hill Church of Christ Food Pantry, 4904 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR.
