Vernon Dixon, 91, of Joy, Illinois died Friday, September 7, 2018 at Heartland Healthcare in Moline. Visitation will be at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo on Monday, Sept. 10th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service.

Funeral services are 11:00 am on Tuesday, Sept. 11th at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial, with graveside military rites, will be in Peniel Cemetery, rural Joy.

Memorials may be left for the family. Garold Vernon Dixon was born July 29, 1927 in New Boston, Illinois a son of Carl Sr. and Zeola Bice Dixon. Vernon married Betty Lou McCulley, they were married for over 50 years, she passed March 7, 1998.

Vernon served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at John Deere Harvester, retiring in 1985. After retirement, Vernon worked for Frieden Farms, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and V.F.W. as well as a volunteer fireman for many years with the Joy Fire Department. He was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting ducks and deer. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Barb (Allen) McNichols, Aledo, Debbie (Leon) Stineman, New Boston and Randy Dixon, Aledo; grandchildren: Angie Bennett, Andy Dixon, Abbie Love, Joni Stineman, Jade Dixon and Britta Dixon; great grandchildren: Kevin Dixon, Brandan Dixon, Courtney Bennett, Taylor Bennett, John Love, Blake Love and Briley Love; brother: Kenny (Elaine) Dixon, Joy and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son: Stephen Dixon, sisters: Rosie Eggen, Dorothy Anderson and Marilyn Dixon and brothers: Carl Dixon, Jr., Richard Dixon, Charles Dixon and Gary Dixon.
