Veronica Ann High, 88 of Petoskey, gracefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. Veronica was born on July 26, 1930, the daughter of Joseph Foster Otto and Christine (Baker) Otto. She attended Catholic School until the 10th grade and eventually went on to earn her GED.

She married Howard John Chingwa, Sr. and together had eleven children. Later, Veronica met John J. High they were happily married until his death in 2003. She worked in housekeeping at the hospital in Petoskey for many years until her retirement.

Veronica enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens and feeding the birds in her yard. Not only was Veronica a mother to her own eleven children, but she also mothered lots of neighborhood kids and to many of her nieces and nephews. Veronica had a very large and giving heart.

She is survived by her children, Howard John “Johnny” Chingwa, Nathaniel John (Mary) Chingwa, Cassandra Joan Chingwa, Terisita Joan Chingwa, Lonnie John (Melissa) Chingwa, Daniel John (Janada) Chingwa, Celeste Joan Chingwa, Aaron Kevin Chingwa and Sheila Lorinda Chingwa; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. High; daughter, Renee Joan Chingwa; son, Henry John Chingwa; and her children’s father, Howard John Chingwa, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Petoskey. Friends and family are welcome to join in the recitation of the rosary which will take place just before Mass begins.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Dennis Stilwell will officiate.
