Veronica Rowland December 19, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Veronica (Feerick) Rowland of Hershey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (“Yaya”), sister and friend, died on December 19, 2018. Ronnie was born in Birmingham, England on October 16, 1943, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Hanley) Feerick. In addition to her parents, Ronnie was preceded in death in 2017 by her loving husband of fifty years, Marty Rowland.

Ronnie is survived by her four children and their families – Tara A. Jones and her husband Scott of Shermans Dale; Kevin Rowland, his wife Ann, and their children Sean, Kelan, and Brady of Hershey; Christine N. Whyld, her husband Gary, and their children Ella and Addison of Glen Ridge, NJ; and Christopher A. Rowland, his wife Sarah, and their children Liam and Samantha of Harrisburg. Also surviving are her brother James Feerick and his wife Fran of Bayside, NY; her sister Ann O’Shea and her husband Eddie of Clifton, NJ; her sister-in-law Eileen Rowland Drehwing and her husband Frank of Hilton Head Island, SC; several nieces and nephews; and many loyal and wonderful friends. In her teenage years, Ronnie’s Irish parents moved from England to Queens, NY.

In New York City, Ronnie graduated from The Thorpe Secretarial School in 1961 and met, and then married her husband Marty Rowland in 1967. After living for several years in New York, the couple moved to Hershey in 1975 and built a home and a life in the community with their growing family. Always active and on the go, Ronnie was a longtime member of Hershey Racquet Club where she played mixed doubles tennis with her husband Marty, and in a women’s doubles league with many friends.

She also enjoyed golfing, gardening, and walking with friends. Ronnie relished parties and celebrations of any kind, and every birthday was made complete with her special, musical birthday candle. She was a vivacious and gracious hostess—always ready with a festive cocktail, party games, and a welcoming smile for everyone.

She loved a good laugh, great dance music, and most of all, her family and friends. A member of the church for over 40 years, Ronnie will be celebrated at a Memorial Mass at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave. , Hershey on Friday, December 28 at 11 AM.

The family will receive guests at the church at 10:30 AM prior to the Mass, and then immediately following at a celebration of life reception at Picard Grand Pavilion at Hershey Country Club, 1000 East Derry Road, Hershey. Private interment will be in Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg PA, 17110.
