Vertis Clarke Tropic, Utah Vertis Pollock Clarke, 92, passed away November 24, 2018 in Riverton, UT. She was born February 20, 1926, in Tropic, Utah to William and Cecy Bybee Pollock. She married Lester Clarke, May 11, 1946.

The marriage was solemnized January 18, 1947, in the St. George Temple. He preceded her in death January 11, 2016. Vertis was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She served faithfully in numerous Church callings in the Primary, Relief Society, Young Women and Sunday School organizations. She also enjoyed family history and temple work. Vertis spent the majority of her life growing up and living in Tropic.

During her younger years she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandmothers. She learned many important life lessons from these family members and the experiences she shared with them. She excelled in her school work and received numerous academic awards, including being named valedictorian of her class.

Following her graduation from high school, she spent time working at Bryce and Zion National Parks. After World War II, she met her sweetheart, Lester. They were soon married and began their family.

Vertis spent many years working as a homemaker and raising her six children. During these years, she also enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren. As a mother, she worked hard and sacrificed much to teach and take care of her home and her family.

She was an excellent cook and will especially be remembered for her pies and homemade bread. Vertis is survived by her children: Dian (Sherrill) Lamb, Vernal; Richard (Judy) Clarke, Riverton; Wesley (Ellen) Clarke, St. George; Karen (Merrill) Willis, Chubbuck, ID; April (Rick) Evans, Rexburg, ID; Ivan (Tori) Clarke, Salem; 35 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren (with 3 more on the way) and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Vertis was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Dorma Barton, William Kempton Pollock, Colleen Campbell, Ferris Pollock, David Larvin Pollock, and Raymond Devar Pollock; granddaughter, Katherine Lamb; great-grandchildren: Tyler Durrant, Leyna Leech and Donaven Clarke.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tropic Ward Chapel, where friends may call Tuesday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Tropic Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.
