Southbridge…Viny J. (Therrien) Lacasse, 103, formerly of Southbridge, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Brookside Rehab & Healthcare Center in Webster with her niece Carol Antos of Dudley by her side. Her husband was the late Hormidas J. Lacasse who died November 25, 1992. She leaves behind Yvette Brisbois, Joanne Ayers, and Kathi Grenier, and many other nieces and nephews as well as her great-nieces and nephew Henry Antos III, Christine Hawley, Lori Duggan, and Cheyenne Grenier of whom she cherished.

She also took great joy in spending time with her great-great-nieces, Adriene, Alison, Emily, Hannah, and Gwen. She was born in Southbridge, July 25, 1914, daughter of Henry and Evelina (Bourdeau) Therrien, and was a lifelong resident. She was a longtime parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Southbridge, and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality of Sacred Heart Church.

She volunteered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Southbridge for most of her life. She enjoyed setting up for bingo every Friday night, though she never played bingo herself. She was a championship-caliber bowler for many years, winning numerous trophies Viny worked for many years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge.

While working on the lenses, she met Hormidas, making the frames to her lenses. They were happily married for 52 years; a pair made for each other. Viny was an avid New York Yankees fan all of her life.

Even when she couldn’t see very well, she still listened to the games. Viny traveled to New York several times to watch her beloved Yankees play, including many of the greats. She even traveled with Hormidas by train to Saint Louis to watch the Yankees win the World Series in 1943.

One of her favorite vacations was a trip to Yellowstone National Park. She remembered at one point in the trip they thought that there was a rattlesnake in the car! The funeral will be Monday, April 23, 2018, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550 with a Mass at 11AM at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley, MA 01571.

Burial will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 North Woodstock Road, Southbridge, MA 01550. A calling hour will be held prior to the mass from 9:00-10:00AM at Sansoucy Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her memory to Ascend Hospice, 100 Locke Drive, Marlborough, MA 01752 or to Circle Home Health & Hospice Care, 847 Rogers Street, Suite 201, Lowell, MA 01852.
