Torrington- Viola P. Cahoon, 78, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Preston L. Cahoon. Mrs. Cahoon was born in Winsted on June 22, 1940, daughter of the late Theodore Rice, Sr. and Loretta (Williams) Rice, and had been a lifelong city resident.

She was a retired factory worker with Waring Manufacturing, retiring with many years of service. She was a lifelong member of Workman Memorial AME Zion Church. Mrs. Cahoon enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Albert LaMere of Torrington, Kenneth LaMere of TX, and Kevin LaMere of Torington; two daughters, Sabrina Lacy of Torrington and Cheryl LaMere of FL; two brothers, Theodore Rice, Jr. of Bloomfield, and Ward Rice of Winsted; a sister, Patricia Fischer of Torrington; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Cahoon was predeceased by a sister, Irene Ellis. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 4, 2019 at 5:00p.m. at Workman Memorial AME Zion Church, 60 Brightwood Ave.

, Torrington. Calling hours for friends and family will be held Monday from 3:00 to 5:00p.m. at Workman Church. Burial in Forest View Cemetery, Winsted, will be held in the Spring.
