Dave Menge, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Family and friends may contact and greet the family at the home of Mrs. Swanagon. Violet L. “Vi” Swanagon, age 91, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in Lawton. She was born June 24, 1927 in rural Missouri on a family farm near Ditmer, Missouri, the youngest of four children of William and Maude Ellen (Reed) Kommer.

She graduated in 1945 from Pacific High School in Pacific, Missouri. She later moved to St. Louis, Missouri to start her working career. While she was employed at General American Life Insurance Company in St. Louis, she met CW3 (Retired) Robert W. Swanagon whom she married on February 24, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Union, Missouri after a two-year engagement.

Robert predeceased Violet on May 19, 2017 after 65 years of marriage. She lived the life of an Army wife for many years traveling to multiple military bases in the United States and Germany and often said she would do it all over again with Robert. Violet and Robert enjoyed traveling during their retirement years and visited many countries in Europe.

Violet was an active member of Western Hills Christian Church from 1962 until her death. She taught Sunday school for 28 years and loved working with children. She served on several committees of the church during her many years of membership at the church.

She enjoyed family celebrations and always had a table laden with wonderful delicious food prepared for her family. She was a wonderful hostess to many groups who came to the church and her home was always open to people in their travels. Violet is survived by one son, Robert Swanagon and wife Jennifer of Evergreen, Colorado, one daughter, Jan Williams and husband Clark of Edmond, two granddaughters, Sara Cosenza and husband Chris of Denver, Colorado, and Amanda Backus and husband Jamie of Enid, one grandson, Daniel Williams of Norman, one great granddaughter, Adelle Backus and two great grandsons, Colin and William Cosenza.
