Virginia Ellen’s Obituary Mrs. Virginia Ellen Dial, age 84, wife of William Dial, and a resident of Zion Road in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 3PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of Maury County, Ellen was born on August 8, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Ernest Reed Martin and the late Lester Ann Finney King.

She was a 1951 graduate of Haylong High School and married William Dial on December 26, 1952. Ellen was a member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed all sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and was an avid UT basketball and football fan.

In her younger years, Ellen enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league. She loved shopping, gardening, feeding birds, and cross stitching. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Terry (Yolanda) Dial of Columbia, Gail Sanders of Columbia; grandchildren: Jason Sanders of Columbia, Hollie Sanders of Columbia, Callaway (Ashley) Dial of Columbia, Russell (Samantha) Dial of Lewisburg; eight great grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; and sisters-in-law: Virginia Ross Nichols, Lorene Young, and Katy Dodson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Joanne McClain and Bunnie Morton; and son-in-law: Phil Sanders. Pallbearers will be: Callaway Dial, Russell Dial, Austin Sanders, Brenon Sanders, David Nichols, and Jerry Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will include: John Morton, Brownie Hill, Julia Bryant, Sandy Collins, Donald Wilkins, Tommy Nicholson, James Nichols, and Joe Shelby.
