Virginia Irene Burns, 97, of Ashland, passed away, Sunday, May 5, 2019 at The Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation. Virginia was born July 27, 1921 in Ashland to Arthur E. and Dora F. {Brubaker} Smith. She was a 1939 graduate of Ashland High School.

She married Robert R. Burns in 1959. He passed in January of 1995. Virginia worked for Charles Enck family, A.L. Garber Company and retired from Faultless Rubber Company.

She enjoyed flower gardening, scrapbooking, going to auctions, collecting cruets and biscuit jars, and family gatherings. Virginia also always had a pet dog and was known to be a hardworking Christian woman. Virginia will be deeply missed by her son James A. Keefer of Ashland; granddaughter Theresa (Jeff) Thompson of Willoughby; step-granddaughter Beth Alfson of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; brother George W. Smith of Ashland; sisters Mary H. Keefer and Carol B. Burns both of Ashland, Olive S. Simmons of Lorain and Joan E. (David) Warner of Norwalk.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Arthur E. Smith Jr. and J. Russell Smith, and a sister Doris J. Smith. As to Virginia’s wishes there will be private services held at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel. Inurnment will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
