OBITUARY Virginia “Itto” Flowers September 26, 1928 – July 18, 2018 Mrs. Virginia “Itto” Lucille Flowers (Ferguson) died peacefully in Pflugerville, Texas on July 18th at the age of 89. Itto is survived by her children, Milton Lee Flowers III and wife Karen of Pflugerville, Louise Flowers of Pflugerville, and Phillip Flowers of Elgin; grandchild, Megan Flowers and husband Michael Nellis of Cypress; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Milton Lee Flowers, Jr. of Austin.
Itto was born on September 26th, 1928 in Big Springs, Texas to Edwin “Ned” Bowyer Ferguson & Bernice Miles. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1945 and met Milton Lee Flowers, Jr., an associate in his father’s plumbing business. They were married in a candlelight ceremony at First United Methodist Church of Uvalde on October 8th, 1946.
After moving to Austin, the couple welcomed three children into their home. Itto and her husband were extremely fond of tea-cup chihuahuas and would own many over their 50 years together. After her children were grown, Itto worked as a greeter for the University of Texas Co-op for 15 years.
There was no mistaking her passion for the Lady Longhorns or anything burnt orange. It did not matter whether she was sitting courtside for a women’s basketball game or watching Longhorn football from her living room, her boisterous support was always the same. For many years, Itto exclusively wore colorfully embroidered blouses with button covers, celebrating all seasons and her favorite Disney princesses.
She loved to gather the family together for holiday dinners and take her one and only granddaughter on adventures to the Co-op and the thrift store. A Jalapeno Cheeseburger from Whataburger and an ice-cold Diet Dr. Pepper would put the biggest grin on her face. Itto was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.
It gave her great joy to decorate the church for all seasons and celebrations, adding anything with cheerful color, flowers, and glitter, wherever possible. Itto loved Christmas and enjoyed sewing stockings to send home with infants born during the holidays. She would often arrive with cookies or cakes in hand to share with anyone she met.
Itto was proud to not only meet many new people, but to love them as a friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Itto’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The University of Texas at Austin, Scholarship Program at utdirect. utexas.
