OBITUARY Virginia (Kirkland) Mauney September 25, 1929 – July 15, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Virginia (Kirkland) Mauney, 88, of Stanley, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 15, 2018. Virginia was born in Chambers Creek, NC to the late Ida R. (Watson) and Robert E. Kirkland. Virginia was one of 11 children growing up in a log cabin.

She was an excellent gardener who especially loved to grow daylilies. She was awarded “yard of the week” numerous times in Stanley. Virginia was a master seamstress sewing clothes for her granddaughter on many special occasions.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters and a son; Selbe Joe Costner.

Left to remember Virginia and to carry on her legacy are her husband, Robert Mauney, son, James “Jim” Costner and wife Patti of Belmont, grandchildren Kristin Dobson and husband Charles and Scott Costner, sisters Drama Lee Woody and Wanda Ballew and brother Johnny Kirkland. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Virginia’s life at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at Carothers Funeral Home, 412 S. Main Street, Stanley. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Committal will follow the Celebration of Life Service at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Virginia’s name to the charity of your choice.

The family extends a special “Thank You” to the staff at Stanley Total Living who took such excellent care of Virginia during her last days. The family of Virginia K. Mauney has entrusted her care to the staff at the Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley. We are deeply honored.
