Obituary for Virginia Schmitz (Bechtel) Virginia L. Schmitz, 92, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Born in Milwaukee, WI, on January 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Clara (Kosak) Bechtel, Sr., and was educated in the schools of Milwaukee. On July 30, 1949, she married William A. Schmitz in Milwaukee and together they moved to Kenosha in 1953.

He preceded her in death on February 26, 2002. Virginia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Women’s Club at the church, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed doing ceramics and sewing, but most of all, she loved being a mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Tina) Schmitz of Kenosha; two grandchildren, Brian Schmitz and Jennifer (Robert) Miller; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Miller; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Schmitz of Milwaukee and Leonora Schmitz of Kenosha. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Schmitz on October 5, 2007; a brother, Harold Bechtel, Jr.; and a sister, Audrey Reith. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13th, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
