OBITUARY Wm. Paul Jackson April 26, 1938 – January 14, 2019 William Paul Jackson, Sr., a devoted dad, husband and granddad (age 80) died Monday, the 14th of January 2019 in Houston, TX following a brief illness. Paul was born on the 26th of April 1938, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He attended C. E. Byrd High School in Shreveport prior to entering Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Paul also attended Centenary College in Shreveport prior to receiving an economics degree with a Geology minor from LSU. Subsequent studies concluded with a master’s degree in business and post-masters work at the University of Houston (TX).
Paul was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1961 prior to many years as an executive in the oil and gas industry, both in Shreveport, LA and Houston. He served as president of consulting firms Oil Country, Inc. and Gulf Business Services (a joint venture with Gulf Publishing Company), after holding management positions at Cameron Iron Works and Hydril Company. He closed his career an entrepreneur active across the energy industry.
Loyalty and unwavering commitment to his wife, family and friends were Poppy’s trademark. Without the slightest doubt, Paul always considered his strong family to be his proudest accomplishment. Time spent with friends and family at Buckeye, the Galveston ‘Light House’ and later the Coleman House were his favorite things to do.
Golf, extensive travel and entertaining were mainstays in Paul’s life—his “bucket list” included visits to all 50 states, all provinces of Canada, all European countries and all continents—and of those, he only missed a few European countries. Other activities included more than a dozen years as a Little League baseball coach (a pretty good one in his own estimation…but maybe not quite as good as he thought he was! ).
He always considered himself an “honorary Double-Eagle” for ensuring both sons followed young-years vows to become Eagle Scouts. His biggest hobbies were his love of coins and collecting cool rocks. He was one of the biggest LSU fans to date (and has the wardrobe to prove it).
He was a member of the Houston Club, the Shreveport Club and various professional organizations during a long career. Paul was predeceased by his father, Newton Burgess Jackson, Jr. of Shreveport, LA. He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Railsback Jackson of Shreveport, beloved and devoted wife of 56 years, Flavia Leary (“Missy”) Jackson; daughter, Michelle J. Williams and husband Lacy of Houston; son Christopher Wise Jackson and wife Melinda of Houston; daughter Monica Jackson Brauchle and husband Randall, MD of Houston; son William Paul Jackson, Jr. and wife Monica of Dallas.
He is also survived by grandchildren Megan Whittle and husband Grant, Trace Williams, Kathryn Williams, and Jack Williams; Luke Jackson and Alex Jackson; Christopher Brauchle, Elizabeth Brauchle and Matthew Brauchle; Will Jackson, III and Georgia Jackson. His brothers, N. B. Jackson, III and William Urban also survive Paul, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 17th of January, in the library and grand foyer of Geo.
H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Paul always said he wanted any services upon his departure to be “short on form, short on pomp, short in time and short one body”. The interment is to be conducted at half-past eleven o’clock on Saturday, the 19th of January, at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave.
in Shreveport. In lieu of customary remembrances and for those desiring, contributions may be directed to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Ste 300, Rockville, MD 20852; or to the charity of one’s choice.
