MADISON- Walter E. “Wally” Ferguson, age 83, passed away after a brief illness on November 20, 2018, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born in Richland Center on August 31, 1935, the son of George W. and Gladys (Dockerty) Ferguson. After high school, Wally was enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 until 1957.

He married Tazuko Suzuki on November 18, 1957 at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Wally was a firefighter with the Madison Fire Department from 1958, where he began at Station #9, until his retirement in 1994 as Captain from Station #1. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Tazuko; his children, Tina (Chad Mess) Ferguson and George J. (Sue Suchomel) Ferguson; grandchildren, Jamie Ferguson, Christian Bahler, Elizabeth Bahler, Katie Ferguson and Johnathon Bahler; great-grandchild, Carter; his sister, Hilda Odegaard; his well-loved dog, Yobo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. His family extends a grateful thanks to the staff at Agrace for their excellent care of Wally. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Fire Fighters Local 311 Charities, to be used for rescue emergency services.
