OBITUARY Walter Glendenning Duer January 2, 1929 – August 30, 2018 Walter Glendenning (Glen) Duer of Williamsburg, VA and formerly of Deering, NH, Lampe, MO and Avon, CT, passed away on August 30, 2018. He was a wonderful man who loved his life and his family. He was born in Marietta, OH on January 2, 1929 to the late Charles E.T. and Hester (Bishop) Duer.

He graduated from Ohio University in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, making it his career. It was there he met the love of his life Ann (Lowery) and they were married in 1959. His service lasted 22 years, traveling the world and earning 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star Medal, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Medal.

He retired from the military in 1973 and started a second career with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, from which he retired “for good” in 1992. He spent the rest of his life enjoying his retirement. He would watch almost any sporting event, but especially loved the UConn Huskies and the Boston Red Sox.

Great with his hands, he could make or fix just about anything. His interests varied greatly, from opera and theatre to Family Feud and silly British TV. His happiest times were spent with family and friends, cruising on the pontoon boat on the lake in New Hampshire, attending Wine and Dine events or just enjoying the daily 4 o’clock beer.

He was a true gentleman and just a good guy – he will be missed by all. Besides his wife Ann, he leaves behind a daughter Michelle O’Brien (Kevin), son Jeffrey Glendenning Duer (Erin), grandson William Glendenning O’Brien, a brother William (Bill) Duer of Ohio and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Also left to mourn is his beloved dog Jill.

He was predeceased by sisters, MaryEllen Carlson, Sarah Jane (Sally) Miller and a brother Delmer Duer. The family will be planning a memorial service at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church for some time in early October, with subsequent burial in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the charity of your choosing.

The family greatly appreciates all the care, concern and support that have been shown upon his passing. Online condolences may be share with the family at www. nelsencares.com.
