LINCOLN—Walter (Walt) Dennis Shotkoski, Sr., 93, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Holmes Lake Rehabilitation in Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton with Reverend David Fulton officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Fullerton with military honors by Fullerton American Legion Post 151.

Visitation will be held at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton Sunday, May 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service immediate thereafter at 7:00 p.m. Walt was born October 9, 1925 to Joseph and Victoria (Czuba) Shotkoski in Silver Creek. He attended Silver Creek High School and worked at the family farm until enlisting into the Army November 22, 1950. During his service, Walt served on the front-line during the Korean Conflict.

On August 26, 1952 he transferred to the Army Reserves and was discharged August 15, 1956. Walt married Cecilia (Sally) Dubas on February 10, 1953 and had five sons together. For years Walt farmed south of Fullerton, then moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1972 working with Coors Brewery.

In 1978, Walt and family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to pursue opportunities in the construction industry. Later on, he retired and spent time with his wife Sally, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walt was always a whiz at crossword puzzles, word searches and doing math in his head.

Early on, Walt displayed his talent for drawing and later oil painting. He enjoyed playing baseball on the family farm, playing cards, and fishing. He could always find a solution to a construction or design problem.

In addition, he loved polka dancing and a good cocktail. Walt always enjoyed a home cooked meal, banana cream pie, and chocolate. Survivors of the immediate family include five sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Connie of Sioux Falls, SD, Rex and Angie Shotkoski of The Woodlands, TX, Gary and Karyn Shotkoski of Denton, NE, Robert and Ann Shotkoski of Arlington, TX and Walter Jr. and Michelle Shotkoski of Lincoln, NE.

Additional survivors include 14 grandchildren, Summer (Joseph) Reginek, Staci Shotkoski, Kylee Shotkoski, Rex Shotkoski, Jr., Jeremy Shotkoski, Joshua (Amber) Shotkoski, Carly (Shad) Wobig, Derek (Ceara) Janssen, Craig (Bethany) Janssen, Stephen Shotkoski, Jacob Shotkoski, Brendan Shotkoski, Cade Shotkoski, Rhett Shotkoski, 10 great-grandchildren Saela Schwab, Delaney Schwab, Dessia Shotkoski, London Shotkoski, Zion Shotkoski, Makena Shotkoski, Knox Wobig, Brigs Wobig, Brynn Wobig and Delaney Janssen. Walt was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sally; parents, Joseph and Victoria; five sisters, Lucille Augustine, Gertrude Valasek, Francis Kuta, Eva and Mary; and three brothers, Edwin, David and Donnie.
