Wanda’s Obituary Wanda M. Jacques of Alton, Illinois, passed away on May 25, 2019 at Integrity Nursing Home of Godfrey,Illinois with her daughter by her side. Wanda Lee McFerrin was born May 21, 1938 in Sedalia, Missouri, and she was the eldest of four daughters of the late Charles and Mayme Cleo McFerrin. Wanda attended Hubbard High School in Sedalia, MO, and graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo where she completed her Bachelor Degree.

She taught Special Education in the St. Louis Public School system for 40 years before retiring in June 2001. On June 1, 1960, Wanda was united in holy matrimony to Gilbert Jacques, Jr. and their daughter Heather was born to this union. Wanda gave her life to the Lord at an early age and she loved her Savior dearly.

She attended church weekly and served as church Elder preaching the gospel of Christ to His followers. She held many church offices and she was blessed with the gift of intercessory prayer. She also played the piano and loved hymns and spirituals.

A few years before retiring, Wanda joined the quilting group Stitch and Chatter at Moro Presbyterian Church where she quilted lovingly stitched quilts for the community and her friends. She made many handmade quilts for herself and her daughter. Wanda also loved to crochet, and she was a member of the Busy Fingers Sewing Club for many years.

Her other hobbies included basket weaving, embroidery, and hand sewing. After her retirement, she became a Hospice volunteer visiting the sick, making handmade cards and phone calls, and she attended monthly and yearly Hospice meetings and conferences. Left to cherish fond memories: a daughter Heather Stewart of Alton, Il: a niece Tiffany Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; her aunt Joanna Edwards of Alton, IL; cousins Tracey (John) Hopkins of St. Louis, MO; Monte Edwards of Alton, Illinois; Cyrus Edwards of Augusta, GA; R.J. McFerrin of Michigan; Mike Washington of San Francisco, CA, and C. H. Washington of CA.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Patricia Williams of Massachusetts; Bonnie Johnson of Philadelphia,PA; and Janie Burns of Montgomery, AL.
