Mr. Wayne Beasley Wilford, age 69 of Macclenny, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his home after returning from a trip to the mountains with his dear wife. Wayne was born on June 15, 1949 to the late Mr. George B. and Teretha (Beasley) Wilford in Jacksonville. He grew up there and attended Duval county schools, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1968.

He went on to the University of Florida where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry. He then worked for Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for a few years as a corrections officer. Following his stint there, Mr. Wayne moved to Eufaula, Alabama.

He started a job there with Louisiana Pacific, eventually reaching the position of plant superintendent. He retired in 2010 after more than thirty years of service. He then returned to Florida and settled in Baker County.

In 2012, he met his future wife, Beverly. They dated for some time and eventually married in 2015. She was truly the apple of his eye.

In his spare time, Mr. Wilford was the definition of an outdoorsman. He loved everything about the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was no ordinary sportsman, however.

He was known to travel to places such as Alaska and Illinois to hunt bear, white tail deer, and moose. He had numerous trophy hunts under his belt. He also enjoyed bass fishing in Lake Eufaula, as well as other bodies of water.

Wayne also was a skilled archer, thoroughly enjoying bowhunting. He had an immense collection of firearms and meticulously cared for them. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains.

Mr. Wayne loved his friends and family, particularly his grandkids. He will be remembered for his kind and protective nature. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Beverly Wilford of Macclenny; sons: Matthew (Leila) Wilford and Stephen (Nellie) Wilford all of Macclenny; step-son: John (Krystal) Gainey of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren: Hannah Wilford, Taylor Wilford, Ethan Wilford, Tyler Wilford, Judson Wilford, Zachary Gainey, Daegan Gainey, and Kallen Gainey; brothers: Donald (Tracy) Wilford of Macclenny, Michael Wilford of Jacksonville, and Ken (Teri) Sands of Calhoun, Tennessee; step-mother: Beulah Wilford of Macclenny; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and close friends.
