Wendell L. Brooks, 84, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 9:20 a.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Legacy Estates, Monmouth, IL. He was born on December 30, 1934 on the family farm near Roseville, IL, the son of George L., Sr. and Mae (Snell) Brooks. Wendell was raised and educated in Roseville, graduating from Roseville High School in 1954.

Wendell married Janet E. Williams on November 25, 1956 at the Westside United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and she survives. Wendell worked for SkelGas Propane Co. for 30 years as an LP Service technician and later manager. He later owned and operated Brooks Heating and Cooling for a number of years.

He enjoyed woodworking, was a 63 year member of the A. Lincoln Masonic Lodge # 518 in Kirkwood, and was a very active member of the Heritage Church in Monmouth, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and on numerous committees. He also served on the Kirkwood Village Board for 2 terms. Wendell was an avid Chicago Bulls and Bears fan.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving Wendell is his wife, Janet E. Brooks of Kirkwood, IL; his children, William T. Brooks of Monmouth, IL, Linda M. Gaskill of Monmouth, IL, Jane E. (Pat) Grisham of Eureka, IL, John R. Brooks of Monmouth, IL, and P.J. (Bobbi) Brooks of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Lawrence A. Brooks and two brothers, George Leland Brooks, Jr and Robert Brooks. Masonic and Memorial Services will be 6:00 pm, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

A private family interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the Wendell L. Brooks Memorial Fund or the Heritage Church.
