Willa Mae Bryant, age 98, entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. She was born in Hope, Arkansas on June 14, 1920, to Robert and Mary McElvene. Willa was the youngest of five children.

She moved to Fort Wayne in the early 1940s and in 1943, she married Garfield Bryant. She worked for many years at General Electric. She was a faithful member of Turner Chapel AME Church for over 70 years were she served as a stewardess and as a member of the Missionary Society.

Surviving to cherish her memory are two sons, Robert L. of Fort Wayne and James A. of Bethlehem, GA; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Willa was preceded in death by her husband Garfield, Sr., son, Garfield, Jr., one grandson, her parents and her four siblings. Willa was a very special lady who would always give you a smile and a kind word.

She never knew a stranger. She loved her family and her Turner church family. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

The Doors of Granny’s home were always open for you to get a piece of Aunt Will’s friend chicken, some greens and a piece of cake or sweet potato pie. She would always put a slice of love on your plate and would add, “I love you Gooder”. We’ll miss you, Mom.
