William “Bill” Raymond Barlage MILLER CITY—William “Bill” Raymond Barlage, 82, of Miller City, died at Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center in Glandorf at 9:40 p.m. on October 9, 2018. He was born September 14,1936, in Palmer Township, Putnam County to the late Louis and Edith (Ellerbrock) Barlage. On December 28, 1963, he married Iantha Hanselman who survives in Miller City.

Survivors include four children: Gregory (Chris) Barlage of Sandston, VA, Carol Barlage of Dayton, OH, Douglas Barlage of Edmonton, AB, Canada, and Anne (James) Close of Maumee, OH; nine grandchildren: Ethan and Evan Barlage, Jack, David, and Claire Lewis, Maxwell and Isabella Barlage, and Liam and Owen Close; a sister: Dolores “Dolly” Westrick of Ottawa; a sister-in-law: Kathleen Barlage of Ottawa; and his in-laws: John (Carol) Barlage and Joyce (Thomas) Miller both of Miller City, Rita Wilder of Defiance, and Barbara (Steven) Ranes of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold (Edna) Barlage and Melvin Barlage; two sisters: Rosemary (Eugene) Inkrott and Donna Bollenbacher; and three brothers-in-law: Harold Westrick, Paul Westrick, and Cecil Bollenbacher. Bill attended Miller City High School, worked at Egry Leipsic and General Motors in Defiance until he served in the Army from 1959-1961.

When he returned from his service, he became a full time farmer until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of St. Nicholas Parish, Miller City, Farm Bureau and Ottawa Eagles. He was recognized as an Ohio Top Ten Tomato Producer by Campbell’s Soup in 1970.

He enjoyed playing card games with his grandkids and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Monsignor Charles Singler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Miller City.
