Obituary for William “Bill” F. Altieri William F Altieri, 76, formerly of Waverly, NY and Sayre, PA, was reunited with his beloved wife, Sharron (Apr. 7, 2017), early Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2018.
Bill will be greatly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Matthew Strope of West Warren, Pa, his son and daughter-in-law, James and Bethany Altieri of Smithfield, PA, and his cherished grandchildren: Kaylynn LaMontagne (James Ceely), Sayre, PA, Calvin and Clayton Strope of West Warren, PA, Jaymz Altieri of Smithfield, PA, and Matthew’s mother Mercy Strope. Also surviving are his brother John and Carolyn Altieri, Waverly, NY, his sister, Delores Bradley, Sayre, PA, sisters-in-law, Jeanette Sheppard and Mary Ziegal and brother-in-law, John and Carolyn Pardy, several nieces, nephews and their families and very close family friend Pasquale Poccaro, who has taken in Bill and Sharron’s cherished cat, Kelly. Bill was born on Dec.
14, 1941 a son of the late Frank and Herta (Stoll) Altieri. He and Sharon enjoyed almost 49 years of marriage. Bill attended both Scranton and Philadelphia School for the Deaf.
He then graduated from City Barber Institute in Wilkes-Barre, PA. For many years he was an employee of Dozack’s Jewelers in Elmira, NY during the day and operated Bill’s Barber Shop on Broad St in Waverly in the evening. His memberships included the Moose Club, VFW-(social), Sons of Italy and the Southern Tier Deaf Assoc.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Twin Rivers Bass Masters and also enjoyed shuffle board, bowling, bingo, the casino, lottery tickets and Wal-Mart. Bill’s happiest times were those he shared with his family. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Thursday Oct.
18th from 6-7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St. Nichols, NY. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Bill’s Life will follow there at 7 pm with Pastor David Pitcher of the West Warren Congregational Church, officiating.
