William M. “Bill” Miller, age 85, of Sidney, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 10, 2019 under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice at his daughter’s home. The son of Ivah (Benton) & William Miller, Sr., he was born on March 31, 1933 at the family home in Montcalm Township. On February 8, 1952, at Sheridan, he married Wilma M. Dick and together they raised three children and enjoyed nearly 42 years of marriage until Wilma passed away on January 15, 1994.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry “J.D.” Miller on July 31, 2006; an infant grandson, Matthew Steven Bland; a half-brother, Ernie Sixbury; and three half-sisters, Vonnie Houghteling, Alice Cairl, and Gladys Aldridge. Bill retired from the former Hitachi Magnetics plant in Edmore and was a long-time member of Greenville Masonic Lodge No. 96 F&AM where he served in a number of offices, including as Master.
He was also a member of Trufant Masonic Lodge No. 456 F&AM, had attended the Turk Lake United Methodist Church, and in more recent years attended the First Congregational Church of Stanton. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, but most of all delighted in time spent with his family and friends.
Surviving are his “sweetheart” and companion, Katherine Smith of Sidney, and her extended family; his three children, David & Terrie Miller, Patty & Mikey Saur, and Marvin Miller & Connie Hansen, all of Greenville, his grandchildren, Carrie & Tyler Harkness, Joseph & Tami Saur, Shannon & Wayne Cooley, David Jr. & Sarah Miller, Gretchen Miller, Jeremy & Shannon Miller, and Allison & Matt Bland; seventeen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Miller, Velma Gigowski, and Janice & Leroy Fuller; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where Masonic services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation is also from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the First Congregational Church, 305 N. Camburn Street, Stanton, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
Pastor Jamey Nichols will officiate and burial will take place privately at East Montcalm Cemetery. Instead of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory to either the First Congregational Church of Stanton or your favorite charity would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
