William “Bill” E. Key of Salinas, Bill passed away quietly while asleep at the age of 86, Friday March 8, 2019 at 9:30 AM at home with his wife, Kazuko “Kay” Key of 64 years. Bill was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on July 22, 1932. After he graduated high school, he joined the Army.

While serving he was stationed in Japan, where he met his wife in 1953. While serving, Bill and Kay were able to travel all over the world and met some wonderful people along the way with lasting friendships. He retired from the Army after 26 years and made Salinas home for his family.

Bill could not just retire, he worked for the City of Salinas as Police Assistant and became known as C.S.O. Bill Key, “SAM 17”for the next 27 years. He was, also, a lifetime member of the Monterey County Peace Officers Association. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Key; his aunts, Sadie Key and Virginia Mix.

Bill is survived by wife Kazuko “Kay” Key, his son Robert ’Bob” Key (Jane) of Castro Valley, and his daughter Georgeann Key-Miller (Vince) of Tehachapi. The family is asking in lieu of flowers to please donate to the following charitable organizations: COPD Foundation The American Lung Association American Heart Association Breast Cancer Dogs Deserve Better Inc. Visitation will be held on Friday March 15, 2019 between 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 West San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca. 93901.
