William “Billy” McInnis passed away 5/9/2018 in his home. Born on 10/25/1933 in Fitchburg, MA, later moving to Sunnyslope, AZ, where he joined the USMC in 1951 and served in the Korean War. After the war he apprenticed as a mason in Arizona, finally arriving in Las Vegas, NV, in the mid 1960’s.
He started Franklin & McInnis Masonry, which after Franklins retirement became McInnis and Sons Masonry, a company that worked with some of the originators of modern day Vegas. He loved playing golf at the Desert Inn, playing cards, sports and entertaining. He was an avid supporter of UNLV, most notably the UNLV Rodeo Team which he has supported for over 30 years.
He made a big impact on countless students for many years, building friendships that continue through today. Memories of time spent at his farm in Caliente NV, Kimberly ID and cabin in Star Valley WY with dear friends always brought a twinkle to his eyes. During his life he acquired many animals such as his pet Rooster Henry who would ride shotgun with him in his truck, a pot belly pig named Sydney, a goat named Cracker, llamas, miniature donkeys, mules, horses, and numerous dogs of all sizes, including his pride and joy, Sniffles, a Newfoundland who was by his side until the end.
Billy had a big heart along with a big smile, always welcoming people into his home, wanting to know where everyone came from because he never forgot a soul, and he was curious to know if you knew who he knew. His will to live and love of laughter were truly an inspiration. Despite his ailing health he planned and executed a trip to Kimberly Idaho to see his beloved former farm and visit with family and friends.
Even during his last days he was issuing orders to ensure the rodeo team has a remarkable place to keep their beloved horses. We want to thank everyone involved in the care of this wonderful man; there are too many to mention. Without their tender care and love for Billy we truly know that we wouldn’t have been blessed with the extended time we had with him.
Whether it was just stopping by for a brief chat, a quick game of cards, or those involved in his healthcare, it all made a huge impact and for that we are forever grateful. Billy is survived by his children: Bill McInnis, John McInnis, Alicia Berroyer Guinn, Mark Royce, Robyn & Lyn Reheard, Denice Johnson and grandchildren: Kayla, Teagan and Clayton. Services will be held at 10:30am on Friday May 18th at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City NV a celebration of life reception will be held immediately following, details will be announced at service.
