William J. Jones, Jr., 89 of Emerald, passed away, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in his home. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Wilday) Jones. Born on May 4, 1929 in Palmerton, he was the son of the late William J. Sr., and Ellen (Green) Jones.

Bill served in the US Marines during WWII. He was the owner/operator of William Jones Excavating. He served as past president of the Slatedale Emerald Lions Club, past Washington Township Supervisor, member of the Washington Township Planning Commission, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the QB’s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: William J. Jones, III and wife Debra of Walnutport, William F. Miller and wife Sally Fritzinger of Ft. Meyers, FL, Raymond C. Miller and wife Cynthia of Walnutport; Daughters: Eva Jones of Walnutport, Kathryn E. Hunsicker and companion Robert Zarayko of Emerald; son-in-law: Allen Gruber; Grandchildren: Laura, Rachel, Mark, Rodnie, Allen, Lory, Joshua, Andrew, Victoria, Robert, Nicole, Ivory; 17 great-grandchildren; sister: Myrtle Haydt. He was pre-deceased by children John A, Miller and Ruth Gruber, a son-in-law Jay Beil and siblings Lenora Edwards, Melba Farber, David, Thomas, Landis and Clifford Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday September 8, 2018 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington.
