OBITUARY William James Sherrill October 17, 1925 – December 6, 2018 William James Sherrill, 93, of Greenville passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Bedford on October 17, 1925, a son of the late Bruner Arthur and Ada (Wills) Sherrill. William worked as a machine operator with Stanley Furniture for 30 years.
Following his retirement, he served as a landlord for many of his rental properties. Learning about history, reading, doing yard work and handyman work were a few of his favorite hobbies. His favorite time spent was spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Frances (Sutton) Sherrill; brother, Lloyd Sherrill; as well as numerous siblings. Survivors include his son, William Farron Sherrill and wife, Paula, of Waynesboro; daughter, Carolyn Simmons Shover and husband, Leonard, of Middlebrook; four grandchildren, Nola Crum, Carl Shover, Sarah Church and husband, Kevin and Andy Sherrill and wife, Brittany; six great-grandchildren, Jason and Jonathan Crum, Rosemary and Brinley Church and River Sherrill; one great-great-grandson; niece, Gloria Hildebrand and husband, Bennie; neighbors/friends, Ronnie and Diane Rohr, Tiffany Bradford and Brian Ramsey; as well as numerous extended family and friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Thornrose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2566, Staunton, VA 24402. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lynn Moore and the staff with Shenandoah Nursing Home and Legacy Hospice for their loving care of William and his family.
