William Jeffery Loosle passed away on April 27, 2019. He was 64. Jeff died serving others on a beautiful, spring day in the mountain fields of Hanna, Utah.
Jeff was born on October 26, 1954, to Douglas William and Marie Spencer Loosle. He was the third of four children. His loving parents raised him in Richfield, Utah.
After serving a mission in Bogota/Cali, Colombia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he married Diane Lunt in 1976. The two raised four sons. In later life, he married Sherry Giles Loosle on February 2, 2002.
On June 29, 2013, Jeff and Sherry were sealed for eternity in the Draper Temple. The two were inseparable in life, side by side in all things. Jeff was a strong man, physically and spiritually.
Like his father, Jeff’s greatest joy in life was his family and the gospel of our Savior. Jeff and Sherry enjoyed time with their combined six sons, daughters-in-law, and the many grandkids who followed. He attended their games, concerts, and plays, spoiled them with treats and gifts, and hosted family parties out back.
He was proud of his children and grandchildren, cared for them, loved them and was loved by them. Jeff was a true missionary of Jesus Christ. He helped others beyond the veil through indexing, family history research, and temple work.
In less than five years, he indexed roughly half a million names, and was recognized by the Church as the top 2% of indexers worldwide. Jeff loved his dear friends. He ministered to neighbors.
Even when he didn’t need to give, he gave. Jeff used his strong hands to help the weak. He was right with God, and God was right with him.
He was a banker for the community. Jeff worked at many financial institutions. At his passing, he worked at FinWise Bank (previously, Utah Community Bank).
Before that, he worked at Draper Bank & Trust. Jeff had a sharp mind for numbers, a friendly humor, and a gift for leadership. Grateful for his heritage, Jeff was a true Scotsman.
He organized, ran, and competed in hundreds of Scottish Highland games, bringing together people of all types into a noble one to throw cabers, stones, WOBs, and really any inanimate, natural thing that you could throw. Just this spring, he picked up a huge granite stone and held it to his nose and said, “That smells so good. I want to throw it”.
He mastered the sport, and to this day holds world records. He loved the bagpipes, asking to be piped home when his time came. Though too soon for us, we know he’s now at home: “It’s not far, just close by.
. . .
Mother’s there expecting me. Father’s waiting too. .
. . Going home, going home, I am going home”.
Jeff is survived by his wife and best friend, Sherry Giles Loosle of Draper; children: Michael Loosle, Salt Lake City; Joseph (Jackie) Loosle, Farmington; David (Emily) Loosle, Tooele; Jonathan (Kristin) Loosle, Chico, CA; Brad (Erica) Shurtliff, Dayton, ID; and Cully (Elizabeth) Shurtliff, West Valley City; grandchildren: Bryler, Anika, Easton, Lulu, Kayne, Mila, Taitan, Ariya, Ellica, Jaxon, Adeline, and Katey; siblings: Shauna (Jeff) Pinegar, Salt Lake City; Barry (Rondalee) Loosle, Mesa, AZ; and Tonya Le (Courtney) Gleave, Eagar, AZ.
